Capped Bust Half Dollars

Here is a 1831 capped bustcoin that I was lucky enough to purchase the other day.  It is known as a Capped Bust Half Dollar. This particular coin was minted in 1831 and there were a total of 5,873,660 minted that year.  Although this is not an extremely rare coin, there are not that many floating around in excellent condition.  Many of this variety that I have seen were well worn.

When it comes to the Capped Bust Half Dollars, this is one that many collectors start with.  They are relatively affordable and it is possible to find them in MS63 and MS64.  There is a single example of a PCGS MS67 and it sold at auction for over $57,000.

This is a 90% silver coin and weighs 13.5 grams.  John Reich was the designer.
